Hear The Future of Swedish Pop – Where’s The Music? Festival
Sweden’s Where’s the Music? Festival is kicking off today, so we’re taking a look at the latest tracks to have been released from the artists performing!
The Trenda: New Nordic Pop playlist is packed with the newest releases in Nordic pop, reflecting exactly what’s going on on the Nordic music scene at the moment.
Today we’re taking a look at three tracks from the latest playlist update – super-fresh releases from three Swedish artists performing at Where’s the Music? Festival in Norrköping, Sweden! The showcase festival will be presenting some of the most exciting up-and-coming artists from the Nordics, so here are some first glimpses of what the future of Swedish pop will sound like…!
Ana Diaz might not be a very familiar name outside of Sweden. Yet. But that’s not the case for people she’s worked with as a songwriter – Britney Spears, One Direction and David Guetta, to name a few. Ana has finally decided to put out material under her own name, creating her own brand of sensitive and strong Scandinavian pop, with smart and confident lyrics.
Her EP Lyssna del 1 saw the light of day just last week and the title, ”Listen part 1”, implies that more music is on the way. While waiting, tune in to ‘Starkare’ and ‘Jag kan låta mätaren gå’ from the EP, both included on the Trenda: New Nordic Pop playlist on Spotify.
Cilia first created some buzz when The Guardian listed her as a Scandinavian artist to keep an eye on back in 2015, and with just three singles out so far, she’s already shown that she’s a force to be reckoned with in the Swedish power pop scene.
The latest release is a collaboration with MARC called ‘Horizon’, which follows on from the hit ‘Silhouettes in Slow Motion’. ‘Horizon’, included on the Trenda: New Nordic Pop playlist, takes Cilia’s voice in a more clubby and dance direction than we’ve previously heard from the artist, a wise move that shows just what this rising pop star is capable of.
One of the most anticipated appearances at Where’s the Music? will be made by singer Sabina Ddumba. Sabina returns to Norrköping after performing at last year’s edition of the festival, but lots has happened in the mean time!
Sabina’s track ‘Effortless’ became the most played song on Sweden’s P3 radio last year and just a few weeks ago she was awarded ‘Best New Artist’ at the P3 Guld awards gala. The smash single ‘Not Too Young’, a new Swedish soul anthem, just got a remix sequel entitled ‘Not Too Young pt. 2’, which is included in this week’s Trenda: New Nordic Music update. Also worth mentioning is that Sabina started her career in the Tensta Gospel Choir, who are also performing at the festival!
